I invite you to visit
our "About Us" page to see the
history of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps and see what
you can get out of joining the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, either
as a cadet or as an adult leader.
I would like to take
a minute to tell you about the Liberty (AGTR-5) Division; we are
located at the United States Armed Forces Reserve Center, Amityville,
Long Island, NY. Our Division was Commissioned on 9 November 2002
after a year of tough preparation and training. and our training
opportunities are better now than ever. The Liberty (AGTR-5) Division
takes its name from the American intelligence ship USS Liberty (AGTR-5).
During the Six Day War between Israel and the Arab States, the USS
Liberty was attacked for 75 minutes in international waters by Israeli
aircraft and motor torpedo boats. Thirty-four men died and 172 were
wounded. The Commanding Officer, Captain William Loren McGonagle,
received the Congressional Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry
and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call
of duty during the attack. We have some very big shoes to fill and
fill them we will.
This Web site fulfills
two primary functions; first as a medium for the Liberty (AGTR-5)
Division and the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps; and secondly,
as a memorial to the USS Liberty and the
thirty-four fine young men who gave their lives on 8 June 1967,
gallantly defending her from destruction.
The United States Naval
Sea Cadet Corps is a fine organization with units operating in every
part of the Continental United States and its Territories. Within
these units you will find the finest of America's youth and without
doubt, tomorrow's leaders. Opportunities for personal and professional
development abound in the Corps. I encourage those of you who are
up to the challenge to join America's finest youth organization
today.
We're
waiting to hear from you.
