Coordinator

The Parent's Group Coordinator is a Special Assistant to the Commanding Officer

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Parent Group Coordinator for Liberty (AGTR-5) Division. My job is to be the liaison between you and our Commanding Officer.

I am a married homemaker with two stepchildren and two 14 year old VERY ACTIVE boys. I currently volunteer for the Coalition Against Domestic Violence. I am a member of the West Hempstead Kiwanis and I am the Key Club Advisor at West Hempstead H.S. (A community service club in the H.S.). I am very involved in my children’s lives, at least as much as they let me.

The following are some of my goals for the Parents Group:

-Publicity. We have to get the NSCC known. When I mention NSCC to someone they usually have no idea who we are. This leads us to, for lack of a better word…

- Recruiting – Showing potential cadets what an excellent, rewarding and enriching program the NSCC is. We need to grow our unit. As cadets age out we are left with fewer cadets. Besides, wouldn’t it be great to see twice as many cadets enrolled and actively participating.

- Community Service –Support the unit to get more involved in programs in which they are helping the military and the community.

-Fundraising – Finding fun ways to raise money to subsidize things the unit does.

- Education, Trips and FUN! – Coming up with ideas and coordinating trips that the cadets can learn from and have fun while doing.

- Parental Involvement – Too many times, the Commanding Officer and his staff receive invitations from community groups to participate in parades and community events that are very important in public awareness we so desperately need and when the day comes, there are one or two cadets available to support the unit’s participation. As we all know—sometimes (often) we, parents, have to push our dear children to get moving. We need to do this for the sake of the unit.

We have written a mission statement that I hope will inspire us. If we work at it together, not only will we continue be the #1 Division in the nation but we WILL also be the #1 Parent’s Group in the nation.
