INFORMATION & UPDATES FOR PARENTS

PARENTS!!! This IS YOUR PAGE - not your Cadet's. We have put this page together for your benefit.

The purpose of this page is to provide to you, the parents of our Cadets, relevant information as it pertains to the Division and our ongoing activities that affect your daughter or son. In addition to the events calendar that provides information on drill dates and activities scheduled throughout the year, we will use this page to provide updates for you so you'll know what activities are planned as well as those we are planning for the future, and you will be afforded (or solicited) the opportunity to participate in any way you can to help us ensure the Sea Cadet Corps is as enjoyable and as constructive an experience as we can make it.

Please check this page frequently for your one-stop shopping center for all the Division's operations that you need to know.

When you are finished you may click on the buttons at the top to return to our Home Page or the "Information" button to return to the page you started from.

PARENT'S FORUM
Parents Forum
Welcome to the Parent's Forum. Some parents requested an on-line forum for the exchange of ideas.
You now have your own forum in which to exchange ideas, get answers to those nagging questions like: What does "Bravo Zulu" mean?; What time do they really have to be where??. At the last Parent's working group meeting, the question was asked: Is there some way that we, as parents, could easily communicate amongst ourselves; something other than e-mail. Well, here it is. By clicking on the link above, you will be taken to our new parent's forum page where you can post conversational strings or just post a question. All other parents can respond to your posts. I also recieve an email each time a posting is made (as I do when the cadets post an entry in their forum (yes, they also have their own forum)) so you are also reaching me and I will answer any question(s) posted that I need to. The questions and answers are available for all parents to read and to respond to. After you are finished making your entry, click on the link that says "return to Web page" and you will be transported back to this page.

SUMMER TRAINING

The NSCC Summer Training Schedule for 2008 is posted on the Compass Web site. It lists all nationally-arranged trainings (Recruit Training and Advanced Training) that cadets and escort officers can participate in.

There are two equal parts to this Schedule:

  1. The INFORMATION LETTER. The NSCC-IL contains guidelines and mandatory information for all applicants. READ THIS LETTER BEFORE APPLYING TO ANY TRAINING!
  2. The TRAINING SCHEDULE. It is posted as a PDF document. Please check back here for the latest updates. The COMPASS Administrator will post changes as they are referred from NHQ.

I have put together an information letter in which I have documented the available training that is in the eastern part of the country. I did the research for you and when information was available from training web sites, I included it in this letter so you and your cadets can get a better idea of what takes place at the training and what better to expect. The letter is a bit large (PDF file) but I think you will find it informative.

INFORMATION LETTER

If you look on the Training Department's web page has some tips like How to apply for summer training - Training Forms - and Some Summer Training Sea Bag Lists.

Communications
Dear Parents:

Communications methods: As the new Commanding Officer of the Liberty (AGTR-5) Division I’ll be taking periodic opportunities to provide information to you as parents. It is my belief that most parents have an intense interest in the activities of their teen-agers. I’d like to point out several methods that I will use to provide information in addition to mailings: Quarterly Parents’ Briefing: I would like to conduct parents’ briefings in the near future and I am open to suggestions on how and when this might be possible given your varied and busy schedules.; Plan of the Month (POM) is posted on the "Drill Schedule" page of this Web site approximately 3-5 days before each drill weekend. Please read it! There is vital information contained in it that you and your son or daughter must know for the drill weekend and to plan upcoming activities; Our web site I have posted a commander's information page entitled "FROM THE BRIDGE" which can be accessed from the "Information" page. The intent is to keep all updated on events and how things are going, how training trips went and so-on. I am available and willing to answer your questions and concerns, and to take your suggestions. Please feel free to call me or email me with any questions or suggestions.

We Want to Make a Better Experience

As the Commanding Officer, I am dedicated to getting our Cadets off the Reserve Center and out of the classroom. I have long wanted to provide the opportunity to go places and see things that relate to our Naval Service. Our biggest stumbling block has been TRAVEL to and from the various events. We have been successful in coordinating with LCDR Erickson from the Navy Reserve Unit to grant access to the Navy's vans for day-trips. I am coordinating a day trip to the submarine base in Grotten, CT to go onboard an active submarine. This is contingent on the availability of submarines and their mission requirements but is does look favorable although the trip might have to take palce on a non-training weekend. We'll see how thing work out.

If you as parents have ideas of things the Cadets might enjoy and can help in making it happen, please call and let us know how you can help. I am interested in getting the Cadets involved with fire fighting training, range fire, trips to historical sites to mention only a few. If you can help, please call the Parent's working group coordinator at (631) 445-1944or you can call me at (646) 522-2917.
